I am a
mother of five children (one step-daughter, one foster daughter and
three of my very own). My youngest daughter was born
prematurely and as a
result she has PVL and Spastic Diplegia CP. I don't have a
formal education
with CP or PVL, it's all been through trial and error, asking tons
of
questions, daily activity, books and references on the subject and
other
mothers sharing the experience
My
strengths are my daughter's strengths, if I see she has a drive to
achieve a goal I am by her side, sometimes it's important to look
for new
treatments and procedures to help achieve her goals. She is
very much my
inspiration.
Limitation
to availability:
Not knowing where to look, or the right questions I should be
asking which
leads to frustration.
I don't think it's right that a child may not be receiving the
treatment
that could be beneficial to him/her because of tightlipped
professionals
and I feel strongly that parents should network together to give
additional
strength to our children and each other. Changes are being
made, but
unfortunately not fast enough and I feel the more we can learn from
each
other, support and teach each other we will pave the road for a more
secure
future for our children.
